Is it safe to store a window air conditioner in
Is it safe to store a window air conditioner in an area enclosed such as a shed but is not heated and susceptible to freezing temps?

I hope so. I have a 10,000 BTU/hr. window unit that has been stored in my garage next to the main roll-up door for two, maybe three, years. I don't know if the temperature at that place has ever dropped to below freezing but since my garage has no insulation and the home's furnace is installed in the garage and takes combustion air from the place it IS possible the temperature has dropped that low on occasion.
Honestly, as long as any water was drained from the pan before storage (and it would likely evaporate if it wasn't drained) I see no problem.

I agree. Nothing for the cold to damage.
By the time it gets cold enough.... any remaining condensate should be evaporated.

We never remove our A/Cs here. I've had one hanging out the wall in 20° temperatures and never had a problem. Grew up a few hundred miles upstate where it gets colder and window A/Cs again were not removed in the winter and never a problem.
Honestly seems like making extra work for your self to remove them. They do make window A/C covers that go on the outside.
