Honeywell Electronic Air Cleaner Questions
I just recently moved into a home with a Honeywell Electronic Air Cleaner. When I went to clean the cells the first time I noticed the light by the power switch was not steady. I cleaned the pre filters and the cells, and noticed that on one of the cells the pleats were stuck together and loose. When I put the cells back in, there was no light on at all, but seemed to be working.
I did the trouble shooting by removing the cells, and the light stayed on, so I am guessing the issue with the light is related to the cells.
My questions are-
1. Does no light mean the filters are not working, or something else is not working?
2. Can any harm done, or is there any risk of fire, etc.?
Thank you

The cell with the shorted blades is possibly the only culprit.
Remove the damaged cell and install the good cell so that it touched the door contacts. If the LED lights up press the test button. If you hear a pop you only need to order only one replacement cell.

The only time that I have seen EAC cells burn up violently is when they are under an air handler and the drain backs up dripping water on them.
I still would not risk leaving a damaged 8500 volt DC cell installed.
Replacement cells are available for 3 sizes but I only see 2 of them in the field. $200 for a replacement EAC cell ( The smaller 16 x 25 EAC ) or, if you have the larger 20 x 25 EAC This EAC Cell.
It is usually possible to unplug the EAC and slide a 16 x 25 x 4.5 or a 20 x 25 x 4.5 Honeywell mechanical pleated filter into the case but this will increase the external static pressure.
