Need AC unit recommendation and price
Hi Guys,
I have a pretty old forced air heater and I wanted to add Air Conditioning. Wanted to ask:
1/ Heater I think works fine but it is OLD. Is it a good idea to add AC to the forced air system? if YES do you guys think the existing vents and air ducts would need any work etc.? or same would work for cold air?
2/ My living space is about 1450 sq-ft single story - what BTU/capacity compressor unit would be ideal? I want to make sure folks dont put too small or too big etc.
3/ What would be the estimated quote I should look for for this kind of upgrade?
I really appreciate any input. It will help me make a good decision.

If it’s an old heat only system, odds are the ducts are not sized for cooling.
Equipment sizing is done via manual J, manual S and manual D. Bigger is NOT better.
Pricing is much too regional to even begin to comment there.
There is no best brand.
The ideal setup would be a full AHRI matched system. However the furnace may be able to move enough air to support cooling.
Are you sure the furnace is in acceptable condition for continued use?

When I think of California..... I think of needing more A/C than heat. If that is true.... you want an up to date furnace that moves plenty of air for the A/C system.
We don't quote prices as everything is too regional. We do recommend getting three quotes for a new system so that you can make an informed decision on the new equipment.
