Do I need an AC tune up?

I'm a new home owner and have never had AC before. An HVAC service in my area is advertising an "AC Tune Up Special" for $79.00. With the weather heating up, is there anything I have to do with my AC unit or do I just turn the thermostat to COOL and it's good to go? Is the AC tune up special a waste of money?

My air conditioner is a Tempstar Model# N4A330AKC200 and it was manufactured in March 2012. It looks to be clean when I inspected it, but I have very limited knowledge when it comes to air conditioners. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Usually a "tune-up" special is a way for an HVAC company to get their foot in the door...... your door.

I just do spot servicing.... not for any particular company... so I don't offer any type of tune up special. I do have many old customers that I've seen for years. I usually see them every year or so for some type of work and the system is checked out then.

I'd rather see you try to establish an account with a local HVAC company that will become your go-to company. Check with friends and neighbors for recommendations in your area. Maybe that local company would be your go-to company. Check them out first. Look for complaints filed against them.

Find a company you trust to do your work.
Those low cost tune up specials are a way to get in your home and sell you a bunch of stuff.
The thing to remember is many big residential companies have gone to a sales heavy focus. We call these guys sales techs because if the problem isn’t something simple and easy they push selling new equipment.
