Smart Home device on split a/c vent?
Im working on a way to make my dumb split a/c unit smart. I need to be able to communicate with the Smart Home hub when the a/c is on and when it is off. I am thinking of placing a window sensor on one of the vents. When the a/c unit turns on, the a/c vent opens and the window sensor detects it has been opened, and that tells the Smart Home hub the a/c unit is on. When it turns off, the vent closes, the window sensor detects it has been closed and tells the hub the a/c unit is off.
My question is, is there any harm with placing the window sensor on the a/c vent? The sensor I will be using weighs 0.64 ounces, so the part that will be on the vent will weigh less than that.

Welcome to the forums from overseas.
By vent I assume you mean the door that opens on the front of the wall unit.
You can put the sensor on the cover and the magnet on the door with no problems.
