Importance of Exact Clearance of mini split air handler to ceiling

I'm installing a Mr. Cool diy 12000btu 115v minisplit. The manual says clearance to ceiling from top of air handler should be at least 5.91 inches, but I can only do 4. (If positioned lower, handler will intrude on window.) What performance compromises, if any, should I expect? Help much appreciated. Thanks. Frank

The clearance is likely needed to allow you to remove the unit's cover.
Many of them swing up to remove and you may need that clearance.

Try to remove the cover with the unit on a flat surface to see if this is true in your case.

I mounted one with 3 inch clearance to ceiling. See Post #16 in this thread for details and photo Installing new mini split- need advice.
