How do you frame around a gas meter?
I am adding a second bathroom in my basement and want to frame around the gas meter as its in the way. I will be doing a 6'x10' basement and in the far corner the gas meter is in the way. What are the codes and requirements to frame around the meter? I will be using steel studs.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Will the meter be in the bathroom ?
How about the sewer cleanout..... that needs to be accessible too ?
I don't believe in the peek-a-boo method of framing where the electrical panel or gas meter is boxed out with no access above or below it.
Personally I'd build it as a closet.

I have never seen a gas meter inside a house, always outside.
So, at some point somebody is going to read that meter, you need to provide sufficient room to access it as well as the possibility that the meter or piping may need to be changed out.
If at all possible I'd build my bathroom away from the meter and as noted a set of bi-fold doors to close it off.

+1 for moving the meter outside. I have never seen one inside and sure don't want to let a meter reader in my house. Maybe it is remote read but still outside makes more sense. How does the fire department shut off the meter in case of fire?

Mine and many in my area are inside.
We finally got remote reading modules but the meter is still inside.

there's probably no hard code about spacing, as long as it's fully accessible, but don't make it too tight. I have finished many basements and the electrical panel access closet (or pikaboo) are often very close to the panel itself. You might need a bifold or pocket door if a hinged door isn't wide enough.
