I seen a post similar to mine but I have little differences than him. I bought a house a few months ago. The basement was finished, which I liked. I decided to redo the bathroom down there. Its a block foundation wall, all below grade except like 2' of the wall, and its painted. I ripped some drywall off the wall and noticed the framing is up against the foundation wall, suttle gaps and such because of the unevenness of the wall. and paperback insulation in the cavities of the 2 x 4 wall. I have never noticed any moisture or wetness down there. I did some tests and they say the same. But it does have an odor down there, its a 1960s house so I figured it would. I am worried about the 2 x 4s and insulation being up against the foundation wall. Is the paint acting as a little moisture barrier and the paper flaps on the insulation acting as a vapor barrier? The insulation was dry, and it was raining that day, the grade outside is good, but the paper looked darker than when you buy it at a store, could just be time or maybe it was wet, I don't know. I cant afford to rip everything out and start from scratch, so I am wondering what my options are? is there a way to keep the framing in place and just redo the insulation? or something? thanks in advance

 

Assuming the framing has been there a long time and is in good shape - I wouldn't have any qualms with reusing it as is. Paper will darken over time.

That should be long enough for any problems to show up. Main concern would be moisture damage to the studs.
