Just replaced the hot water circulator pump....

So here's the next issue/question: When the plumber replaced it, he shut off the (obviously) shut off the valves before and after the pump. He drained whatever was left into a bucket and it was almost black with sediment. I'm sure this can't be good. Why would this be happening and how do I clean out whatever sediment is in the lines?

Is this on a heating system or a domestic hot water system? If on a heating system it is normal and you don't need to do anything.

It's for a domestic hot water system. I'm having someone come back tomorrow to tune up the system.

Since you posted in the Boilers-Home Heating Steam and Hot Water Systems forum rather than the Plumbing, Piping, Water Heating... forum I assumed that this was for heating your home. If it is indeed for heating the water you wash with then I suggest that you read this sticky note from that forum.

http://www.doityourself.com/forum/wa...-included.html

Especially read the part about flushing the tank.
