Any experience/recommendation for a direct vent oil furnace?
We just bought a house and now I have a 30+ year old Weil-McLain with a very noisy power vent. Sounds like an old car muffler. We want to replace the whole thing (not in good shape) and the noise and vibration bother everyone in the family - but won't install a quiet propane system so we'll stay with oil.
Question is: I've heard there are oil furnaces with direct vent that do not require a power vent, and would therefore be way quieter. Only the blower motor, which I can live with.
Any recommendations/experiences for brand/model for such direct vent oil furnaces?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.
Oil fired furnace(hot air) or boiler(hot water) ??
A direct vent oil burner still has an ignition blower and possibly an exhaust flue blower.
The outlet of a direct vent oil system must be considered carefully due to the smell.

When replacing your furnace, especially now that winter is winding down and your current it still running, it is a perfect time to go through the size determination process. Just installing one the same size as the old is next to (sorry) stupid. In the vast majority of cases existing old systems are 2 to 4 times the size needed plus some duct improvements may everything work even better. lots of threads here and lots of help.
Curious, why have you eliminated propane? Propane could be high efficiency and direct vent.

Thanks for the tip on sizing - will look for info in the forums.
We'd be happy with town (natural) gas if it were available but it is not the case. We don't quite like the idea of having gas deposits on our yard. Maybe non sense but whatever.

Boiler! Sorry for the confusion. We have not noticed any smell with the current (very noisy) power vent. Any recommendation make/model for oil boiler + direct vent? Thanks.

Go to the Energy Kinetics website and check out the Resolute. It can burn oil or, if in the future you do want to switch to gas, it can be converted. It's an extremely quiet system and over 90% efficient.
