dresser coupling
steam heat i inch return pipe black iron need to replace a section.what kind of dresser do i need to get thanks

Not that it matters but is this system a 1 pipe or 2 pipe system. I ask because 1 pipe steam systems are very unforgiving to any changes to the system. You can get any type dresser coupling as long as it is rated for "low pressure steam" or about 230 degree F. For the piping, try to buy schedule 80 steel pipe which is also called " extra heavy". Standard pipe which is schedule 40 will usually not last long when used in a steam return. Do not buy galvanized or stainless steel. Early steam systems used wrought iron piping for the whole system, but that was discontinued around 1955

Yes, you need a dresser coupling rated for steam service, for black iron pipe , in the 1" size pipe you are using. The thickness of the pipe schedule 40, 80, etc. does not change the pipes OD.
