Boiler Cleaning

I have a building with a MultiTemp HydroTherm Natural Gas Boiler Model No MR 600 480,000 BTUs .
Recently one of the sections has started having black soot particles drop out of the draft hood and fall on the top of the enclosure. I would like to know the procedure for cleaning the inside of the boiler and what size flue brushes to use to get in and clean the soot buildup off of the interior. Will I be needing any fire cement or high temp fiberglass to repair and seal any parts. is there anything else I should be aware of

I would first have an experienced technician perform a combustion analysis of the boiler. Do this before attempting to clean things. A gas-fired boiler should not produce soot.

Draining the boiler (furnace) for service

Hi all, I'm trying to drain my baseboard system of all water. I turned of the power I closed the incoming water valve I opened the red faucet in the first picture - no water coming out I opened the faucet top right in the second picture - very slowly getting water to come out If i open both at the same time, same result - only the top faucet leaks out water very slowly Am i missing a bleeder valve? Is it something on top of the expansion tank? (i didn't want to touch it yet) I could continue to empty through the top faucet, but i would have to get a short hose connection, so that i don't have to keep standing holding a bucket, because that would take too long. I also feel that that would only empty "half" of the system. I know for a fact that you can empty the whole system without leaving the basement, because some technicians did this when replacing the expansion tank before. DIYer hot water tank smells eggy

So here’s the scoop, old water tank died. It was old and expected to it wasn’t unexpected. Went to the store and purchased a new LPG water heater all the shark bite hoses and new LPG hose. House is on a drilled well 200ft, very elaborate filtration system, bleach injection, water softener blah blah. Installed, straight forward, no major snags. Went pretty smoothly for my first time. Fired her up and with in 30 min we had hot water, a little air and sediment in the lines but that worked out. GREAT I saved myself a few hundred bucks doing it myself. smack on the back good job. Turned the shower on this morning and as it heats up I get a strong eggy smell, I know what it is so I don’t freak out, my question is why now, why is a brand new water heater allowing the bacteria to grow and give off the small but with the old one it wasn’t an issue. Ive searches solutions for the problem online and a lot a things point to the anode but the new tank has a new anode so I can’t see where that’s the culprit. Any ideas? Read More
