New boiler question

I have a 30 year old Slant Finn that’s on its last legs. Been pricing around boilers. Project ranges from 6k-12k. I just want a reliable boiler. A contractor priced me a Williamson for 5900 and a peerless for 7500. What are the differences in these two companies. Is one really better then the other?

We would need the specs on each to be able to tell you the difference. Did the contractor not explain the pros and cons of each one?

Why do you say that your 30 year old boiler is on it's last leg? Is the boiler leaking or or not heating properly? Is this a steam or hot water unit? Boilers can last a lot longer than most people think. I have seen them last more than 100 years. As @poorplumber said more information is needed and a few pictures would help.

When properly maintained, boilers do not have establish lifetime.

I have 70 year old Weil-McLain boiler that operates at 86% efficiency. Would replace it only if irreparable leaks develop.

Greedy contractors push for new boilers when old one just need proper maintenance.

The williamson is a weil mclain product.. The sections I believe are put together with elastomer sealing gaskets seals. The pearless is push nipple design..

My old boiler was 50 plus years old hydrotherm push nipples...

Your old slant fint was/is push nipples..

What do you want.?

10 years maybe 15 years seals? 30 plus years nipples?

Your choice..

But what boiler are they putting in? 7500 a lot for peerless..

Should be same install as williamson price..

@ 5500 they are making 2500 for one days work...

Probably an 800 buck difference between boilers..

https://www.discountbandit.com/willi...ith-70000.html

Me I go push nipples hands down... but get price down for nipples

The prices also include re piping the boiler room and a Taco 24v 2 zone valve what ever that does. It adds 1500 to Bill. Not just a cut and Swap. I have had 5 people out for estimates and they are all around 9-12k. So just Williamson boiler installed is 5900 and peerless is 7800. Those are prices without The Taco valve. Is that needed?

Dcuozzo1 seems to have a thing for new boilers.

I have a thing for money. Knowing that money is in the bank for a rainy day does more for my ego than a new boiler.

My old boiler heats well, is economical on fuel, minimal maintenance cost, very reliable, runs 8 hours a day at zero F. It may not be a shiny new show piece but no one sees it. And I spend a lot less on heating than my neighbors.

Rust? Possibly you have a condensation issue.

Taco zone controller just makes the install easier. no its not needed.

But they are about 120 bucks..

and zone valves are also cheap.. so not sure how he comes up with 1500 bucks.

Maybe 400 in parts..

Hear is a picture of the boiler. See the build up on the right side. I have been told by several people that is not good and nobody wants to mess with it and open a can of worms.
