How to scrub mortar off stones

I had my patio table "replaced" with new 12x12 slate stones and I need to scrub the mortar off it...which is everywhere. What is the best way to get all of the mortar off the stones?

I like a product called Sure Kleen but some of that mortar seems too thick to be removed without some chopping. Maybe tap it with the long side of a brick hammer.

I would use muriatic acid. Make sure to follow the directions and pay special attention to the safety precautions like good rubber gloves. I dilute the acid as instructed in a plastic bucket then use a plastic brush and the acid solution so scrub off any unwanted mortar (while wearing a full face mask, long sleeve shirt & pants and long heavy duty rubber gloves) then rinse off thoroughly with water.

I have found Sure Kleen to be better than Muriatic Acid.

I am going to pickup Sure Kleen this week. Based on photos should I stick with the Heavy Duty Concrete Cleaner or Light?

Ground settling under pool deck concrete

About 6 months ago I had an inground pool put in, with stamped concrete around it. Since then, the dirt under the concrete has settled and there is about a 6" gap between the concrete and dirt just about all the way around the pool. They did use sonotubes, so the concrete has not cracked or sunk one bit. Im just worried that over time it will. Is this typical? Is there anything I need to do? In multiple spots i can look underneat the 3 ft wide concrete and see the side of the pool. Ill see if i can figure out how to upload photos of it. Thanks in advance!Read More

Repairing concrete floor. Advice for method/product.

I have a store room on the side of my home (used to be a commercial building) where the concrete floor has some areas where the top most "layer" has come off probably from water getting in over many years. I am dealing with the water issue by lowering the ground area near the door to drain it off. I need to fix the floor, though, and that's my reason for posting here. I want to do this one time and I know most pre-mixed products are only good for a few years. The depth of the repair is probably 1/4" - 3/8" or a bit more in most areas and some spots are a foot or more wide. Can someone give me the formula for the way the old timers used to do it with Portland cement, sand, lime and whatever else to make this a permanent job, please. Any advice as to how much to mix, whether I can use a 5 gallon pail or do I need a wide trough, all this will be of great help to me for this project. Thanks for the help.Read More
