Using Belgian paver blocks on an indoor wall

Hello,

i have access to a large amount of Belgian Pavers that will be replaced in my community by new and larger versions coming in multiple colors.

I have an indoor fireplace in my living room area with a vaulted ceiling that is over 2 stories high. Could I use these Belgian Blocks on the wall, or will they be too heavy to handle the height required. I know that normally they install veneer.

Finally, if this is viable, would I hire a stone mason for the job, or do I need a specialist in fireplaces? Would you have any idea what the labor for this type of project would cost, and would it be safe?

I'm not a mason by any means....But my first reaction is that would be a tremendous amount of weight to be supported by the floor and underlying structure. If it wasn't designed for it I think it would be very expensive to have the necessary footers and structure designed and put in place.

 

As Paul said you'd first need to verify the structure will handle the added weight. I've worked on houses where they used real stone BUT the framing was engineered to handle the extra weight. Once the framing was verified or beefed up to handle the load a mason would do the work.

I don't know about the floor strength, but I do know that my basement is reinforced with heavy concrete walls.
