Concrete Countertop Problem
Hi. I am new to this blog. I need advice. I poured my concrete countertop in place using quickcrete 5000. It's been 7 days. I got impatient after four days and panicked as the top of my concrete was almost a chalky consistency. So I sanded, cleaned with wet rag, wet sanded. After the countertop dried it looked better, but now if I rub the surface aggressively with my hand small sand granules release from cement. I am in a dilemma of how to proceed. Do I grind or slurry?

Without actually seeing the surface of your countertop it's hard to tell what's needed. It may be just that it needs a good surface sealer and then waxing to seal the surface and make it smooth. Have you put any surface treatment on it yet or suggest bare concrete? Can you provide some pictures of the surface you have now.

It sounds as if your mix may have been mixed too wet and perhaps the surface was overworked into a watery slurry, which results in a very low psi (soft) surface. If after 7 days (now 12 days?) the surface is still sandy and you can easily scratch the surface, my opinion would be that you may well need to start over. But before trashing it, yes, I would suggest you attempt to grind and polish it. 4 days may have just been a bit too soon to be wet sanding it.
