Xypex alternative

I have water coming into my basement around the sewer pipe cleanout that passes through the foundation wall. A few years back I had the sewer line replaced. It turns out they did not use an asphalt collar around the pipe through the foundation wall.

A close friend who is a very seasoned architect recommended two remedial measures. One was to coat the bare cement around the pipe with Xypex. Trouble is, Xypex appears to come only in large sizes @ $178.00 each. Is there any less expensive alternative? I need to cover only 2 square feet of wall.

Thanks.

Personally I think water must always be stopped outside the basement wall. If you excavate outside you can use any number of methods to seal the pipe. Hydraulic grout/cement to fill the gap around the pipe and create a fillet and then coat with foundation damp proofing compound (tar) works quite well and is inexpensive.

I'm with Dane, always start outside with water if you can.
