Question Asphalt paving advice

This won't be a DIY but I have no experience with hiring an asphalt paving contractor or knowledge of what they can/can't do and would like some advice on what to look out for.

I have a driveway that was paved by the previous owner in 1995. It is in need of repair and or repaving. Some areas are okay others show a lot of pitting or missing material, some areas are coming loose from the previous layer and there are a good many cracks.

I think my main question is since the top layer is coming off in areas from the previous layer would they take it up or would there be no difference in adhesion if they just paved over it?

I would like a curb in one area. Is that difficult for a paver to do?

Any other suggestions or things to look at for as far as "extra" service I wouldn't need is much appreciated.

The key to any driveway, concrete or asphalt is a good solid base that provides drainage.

I've leaned the hard way that just scraping the ground flat and laying a driveway will eventually fail, especially if you are in an area of winter weather.

Curbs in either material are no issues.

Can't give you much help in this project but I can tell you to be sure to get several quotes on the work. Check with neighbors, friends and fellow employees who they used.
