Cost of stamped concrete for backyard

Hello Guys,

My brother lives in Virginia near DC. He has a townhome with a small fenced backyard approx. 20x30 ft. He would like to pave the entire yard with stamped concrete. He had an estimate that seemed way to high of $8,000. Could this be the going rate? For comparison I live in South Florida and had pavers installed in my small 20 x 35 ft backyard. It cost around $3000 4 years ago. Is stamped concrete that much more expensive? Is it the area he lives in?

$8,000 maybe high but you'll never see Florida prices in DC. Get other estimates.

Best practice is three or more local bids so you can compare and ask questions.

With stamped concrete you are making the product, AND installing. With pavers you are only buying a finished product and installing it so all the labor is in the install.

Prices in DC are going to be considerably higher than in Florida. Another major consideration is access to the courtyard area. With pavers you can bring a few at a time in a wheelbarrow no problem, you're in no hurry to complete it. With cement if you can't drive the truck close enough to unload the concrete you're either going to have to hire a pump truck or carry it in wheelbarrows but doing this you are under a big time constraint getting it done before it begins to harden.

Not even close to comparing apples to apples.
Totaly different materials, location, way it's installed.
There's at least a 100 different style stamps, just the mat can cost $1000,00.
Then you have the different dyes to add color, special training.
Google "stamped concrete" to get an idea of the hundreds of different ways it can be done.
