plugging holes in brick

I notice above my main entrance door there are two 1/4" holes in the brick. There were two nails loose in the holes (now removed). I think they may have been for hanging Christmas lights. Anyways, now I want to plug these holes. What is the best material to use? I've read online just to use silicone caulk? Or is there something that would be better? Thanks.

Are the holes in the brick or the mortar? If it's the brick I'd caulk them, if the mortar I'd mix up a small amount of mortar to fill them with [although caulk would be ok]

The best outdoor caulk is Quad or Solar Seal but for 2 small holes I would use what ever I had including mortar or cement!

Unless I had an open tube of caulk, or had other things that needed it, I would most likely use duct seal. Granted, maybe I've over used it at times, but it's inexpensive, has a seemingly endless shelf life, and you can slice off just what you need. You can buy it in the electrical section of your local hardware or big box, slice off what you need, push it in a little bit with a stick or whatever, and mold it to whatever shape you want.
