Epoxy Resin/Bartop Varnish on Rough Pallet Wood

Hi guys,

I have an old bar that I am planning to refurbish. I have an idea in my head and I am wondering if I'm in for a nightmare.

I took 20 pallets apart - I have all sorts of cool looking planks.

I was planning to cover the bar top with the pallets. I am going to rip them on the table saw first, laminate the top of the bar as best as I can, and then plane them once they are on the bar to make it as smooth as possible.

My next step if where I expect I could encounter problems. I have never worked with any type of bar top varnish or epoxy resin, but I am hoping to be able to finish the bar and end up with a super rough looking bar top underneath a smooth mirror-like, thick varnish finish.... am I in way over my head here?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks!
Nic

Yeah, pallets are about the lowest quality supply of wood one can find.
