Hinge side of door safety

Any ideas, or is there a device to protect little fingers from getting into the hinge side of a heavy door. Been thinking of a strip of rubber, or hard foam to block that opening. Took the door closer off the door when I saw a close call....still have a stomach ache from that vision. Any ideas....?
Thanks
Charlie.

You could attach webbing (similar to what lawn chairs use to use). Staple it if the door is wood. Duct tape if metal. Won't look pretty but it may work.

I would attach a strip of something; rubber, weather stripping, nylon webbing... across the hinge line. My preference would be for something somewhat firm/stiff so little fingers couldn't easily push it in and still get their finger caught. A strip of double sided tape on each side could hole it in place.
