Slide Out Ladder / Rails that let you swing the down at the end

Hi everybody. I'm new to this forum and thought I'd ask about building a slide-out-ladder.

I'm building a lofted bed with a bookcase on one end, and I wanted to know if there was a way to slide the ladder above the bookcase when the bed isn't in use. I was thinking there were rails that would let you pull it out and then let the ladder swing down to the ground, but I don't know where to begin to find out what they'd be called. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

Ladder

How long is the ladder? Would long drawer slides work?

Why not just install an attic ladder?
Most likely this idea will not meet any building codes.

Uh, so basically, you want a a bunk bed
with a ladder that slides out of the way,
I'd picture something with an action similar to a garage door.

Or, you could figure something out using a Torggler door,
aka 4 hinged right triangles.

You answered your own question They are called slide-out ladders or boat boarding ladders (telescopic). I haven't built one but I like your idea.
Here's an example:

Size: 5.4 KB

To make this in wood, I would build the top channels using hardwood with routed grooves.
The wood ladder could have large dowels or some other round object that slides in the side grooves.
