barrier where trim should go - how to get around this?

Hello all! I am finishing a basement bathroom and I have a spot where there is a board that sticks out 1/2 inch from the wall at the very base. It's my fault...the board is securing a hidden pocket door and I should have thought of this earlier but too late for that Now I'm wondering how to handle the trim with this - I'm in the process of putting in vinyl planks for flooring and then the baseboard will go in next. Should I attempt to use a sawz all and cut the 1/2 inch off so it's even with the wall? Or is there another option? I'm not sure how hard that would be to do.

Yes, cut it off. A long sawzall blade will work best as you can bend it as you cut to keep the saw away from the wall, but the tip of the blade right next to the wall.

I agree removing the excess is best! You could rip your baseboard to fit over it and paint that 2x along with the base. Not ideal but once painted and furniture or whatever in place it won't be overly noticeable.

If the baseboard is larger than the obstruction, you could rabbit the baseboard where it meets the floor. Also, you could take a hand rip saw and cut off the obstruction using a piece of flashing between the saw and the drywall. The saw is flexible enough to allow the handle(and hand) to be away from the wall when reciprocating the saw. Hope this helps.

the tip of the sawsall blade will bounce off the concrete and be a hassle. Don't try and cut it all the way through with the sawsall - just try and get it at least half way, then finish it with a chisel and hammer should break it away cleanly enough. this is of course if you dont' have a multi tool which would cut the excess easier.

Multi-tool was the first thing that came to my mind.
