Baseboard for beadboard wall panels question
I am about to install some 3/16in thick beadboard on my bathroom wall and was looking for the baseboard that has the notch in the back of it at Home Depot/Lowes, but Neither had it, so I think I have a couple options.
I can't install the beadboard then the baseboard because it pushes the baseboard out past my door trim. So I guess I could either put in baseboard and lay the beadboard on top of it and caulk? Or I could take the baseboard and cut a notch in the back of it myself with a table saw. For the last option I was wondering if anyone had done this and had a recommendation on the size of notch, do I need to leave expansion room width wise, maybe make a 1/4 inch or more notch since its 3/16? Open to other ideas as well =)

Might help to know what your baseboard is. I don't know many kinds of baseboard that will have a wide enough profile on top for you to notch. If it's just a square 3/4" thick 1x6 or similar, yes, just make your own 3/16" notch in a table saw. Use a featherboard to keep it from wandering away from the fence.

Must be really thin door trim.
I have always installed base on top of beadboard or in recent house the base was 1/4 wide on top so it just sat there, dont recall seeing notched base.
Might be easier to just replace the door trim also,
For top, rail trim, a 3/16 to 1/4 groove is ok. I always cut mine from regular trim!

I installed 3/8" beadboard in my half bath. I used 1x4 for the base with a rabbet cut into the top/back where the panels set.
As X asked, it would help to know what base you are using. Would removing and bringing your casing out further be an option?

I am going to replace the base, so I don't know yet, I was trying to find the stuff with a notch in it. I measured the current base I just pulled out and it was almost flush with the door trim. It's funny that all these instructional areas, even on lowes. Com, reference the notched base but no one seems to sell it haha.
Mark did you leave extra room for expansion on your notch?

There is no such thing as baseboard with a notch in it. Chair rail is often made with a notch, but not base.

I used Pro's Choice Cape Cod beadboard, and I also need some extra cap and base. Bummer, it looks like HD stopped selling it.
Here's a link to what I used. I plan to order it and have it shipped to the store for free.
