Damage to cabinet finish

To me it looks like somebody had something scotch taped to the side of the cabinet, of course nobody has any idea.

It's pulled off the thin veneer and the substrate wood is exposed.

Luckily it's on the back side so not obvious, any method of repair?

Since it damaged the veneer, replacement is the obvious answer. If you are artistic you could probably fill the depression and faux paint the repair to match the surrounding veneer.

Show a photo from farther back so we can see the face frame. I have an idea.

Order a matching end panel to cover the entire surface. The face frame will conceal the raw edge of the panel.
