Closet shelf for hangers

Hello -

My house has closets that came with wood shelves. The shelves appear to be made from a long board with a separate piece nailed to the front. The piece curves underneath so that you can hang clothes hangers onto it. I think it is some sort of metal material.

I would like to replicate this shelf so I can add another row of storage at the top of the closet. I spent a lot of time looking online and cannot find how this would have been made. Any ideas where I could find this curved piece? Thanks!

My vision isn't the best but the pic from behind looks like a normal closet rod. If nothing else you could install a closet rod and dress up the front to match the existing.

I see the same as Mark, a standard closet pole. The shelf has a front piece (probably) glued and nailed to stiffen it up considerably.

Looks like 3d galvanized nails have been painted over every 6" or so along the top edge of the curved metal "valance" edging that hides the closet rod. Looks like the kind of thing a designer in the 60s would have used... and has long since been discontinued. No way you will find it, imo.

What you have is a shelf with a clothing "J" channel nailed to the front edge of the shelf. Very common here in the MI area they are sold at the big box stores. Dont recall if there is a actual name for them!

Yes, I am in the MI area and my home is from the 1970's. I looked up J channel and that seems very similar to what I was searching for. I also found this piece called a J Cap that has more of a curved end:

Thanks everyone for your help!

I believe the Lowes and HD web sites are the worst for searching, this is the channel. Simple sheet metal channel! They are at the stores, installed two a few years ago when I did the basement!
