Help fixing table leg

Basically, a friend has a table leg that was brought to me and I'm not sure the best way to get the bolt to fasten. The bolt itself goes through a metal bracket on the inside corner of the table, and then into the hole of the leg. The issue is, this hole that is here is much larger than the bolt. I'm not sure if it was just stripped out that badly or if there was a metal plug with threads (I'm sure that has a name) that was in there at one point. I can't get a larger bolt because it won't fit through the metal bracket. Unfortunately I don't have pics of the table itself (waiting on some to be sent) but I do have pictures with the leg, hole, and bolt. Any help would be much appreciated!

One option would be to drill out the hole and glue in a wood dowel then redrill to the smaller hole size!

I think you need a threaded insert. The one in the leg likely stripped/ripped out so you might have to epoxy the replacement in place.
