Joist Direction

Took out an old spiral staircase and not sure which way to run the floor joists to fill the hole. Any advice much appreciated.

Can't tell anything from that pic. They generally should run the same way as the other floor joists.

You can see other joists on the left and right side of the picture under the subfloor.
They are nailed to the joist running left to right and run on out to an outside wall. Behind the camera is a header nailed to joists that run parallel to the ones on the left and right and they run on out to the same outside wall as well.

The bent nails seem to indicate that there were joists there before. Run new ones in the same direction.
