Cleaning windows

Hi....

I am looking for some tips to properly clean windows (Tilt in double hung) both the inside and out. I have heard do not use a cleaner and wipe with paper towel for scratching reasons, but am curious what others do. Steam clean? Squegee?

Thanks

I don't wash windows unless I can't get out of it IMO newsprint is the best to dry/buff them with.

The magic Eraser works well. I use on my car windshield.

I use 1/2 cup to a cup of ammonia in a gallon of hot water, plus a few drops of dawn, to clean the outside. I hose them down and lightly scrub with a soft brush first, then apply the solution with a lambs wool window applicator, and then squeegee off.

For the inside, I just use windex and paper towels. The same solution would work, but too messy for indoors.

I just finished up 3 days worth of spring window cleaning.

Here is the best cleaner I have ever used.

3 cups water, 3/4 cup vinegar, heaping tablespoon of cornstarch.

Another variant adds 3/4 of rubbing alcohol, tried it but didn't see any difference.\

I use a squeegee!

You will be amazed!!

I second Mark's suggestion; I've used newspaper for decades on windows.

Never tried newspaper but I find microfiber cloths work 100 times better than paper towels.

Depends how dirty - Stoner's Invisible Glass or Hope's Perfect Glass and a microfiber cloth for the final cleaning but a really dirty window gets multiple cleanings and the first will be something like Windex and paper towels (I don't subscribe to a newspaper).
