Question Need to put in new runners for sliding doors

I have sliding doors on my closets and the plastic runners they were in at the bottom are all broken out. Are these runners or whatever they are called all standard sized? Are certain ones easier to install yourself than others? I'm looking for something metal that won't break.

Is this a track that goes the length of the opening? if so, I've seen them in aluminum but if it's just the guides for bi pass doors - I've only seen them in plastic. Wouldn't hurt to post a pic of what you have.

Metal guides will wear off the finish on the bottom of the doors.

Question Pics what runner areas look like

Here are the requested pics. The bottom runners, which are only where the doors meet in the middle, are what I need to replace. What do I need to know to get ones that will fit these and won't break out easy?

The part you are after is a closet door floor guide.

Should I measure the thickness of the sliding doors

Should I measure the thickness of the sliding doors or do anything else to make sure I get something that will work?

Most are made to work standard with 1 3/8" doors. Anything else would be out of the ordinary.

Look for nylon, not plastic. Yeah, kinda hard to tell.

The best one I've used has a goldish metal plate that is screwed down and beige adjustable "tabs" that stick up through it. You put the empty holes to the inside so you can't see them. The gold/beige/tan color help them blend in a bit for most carpets.

There are also white ones that that have the adjustable tab permanently attached...sort of like a cut zip tie. I don't like them as well, though they don't protrude as much and are cheaper.

Both of these will adjust from 1" to 1 3/4" I believe. Possibly 1 1/4" to 1 3/4".

Vic, the "goldish" ones you describe are like the ones Johnson hardware includes in their kits.

Question The doors are 1 and 5/8ths thick a piece

It turns out these runners won't fit as the sliding doors are each 1 and 5/8ths inches thick. That's wider than these runners will allow. Any suggestions what runners I need now and where to get them?

You could try this and mount the outside pieces wherever you need them with a couple of extra screws. They also are available in brown.

They are "bypass door guides". Try a Johnson 2034 door guide.
