Microsoft Money program corrupted
I have a 2006 version of MONEY on my desktop that has been moved thru at least 2 laptops. It has performed well, but I knew that some of the older files never made it from the last changeover. I thought I would reload the data from my bank statements, but I can see that the beginning balance just isn't right. I don't know how to adjust the balance without losing more data. Can anyone help me here?

Probably the easiest way to adjust an incorrect balance when you are missing data or can't find a discrepancy is to just enter a fake transaction to adjust the balance up or down as needed. Name the transaction something like "Dummy transaction to adjust balance" and then mark the transaction as cleared and reconciled so it doesn't keep showing up when you do a balance. Set the date of the transaction to put it at the beginning of your known good data so everything after that is accurate.

You could try "change account details" in the left pane, it will let you adjust the opening balance.
I would load all your (new/lost) transactions and then adjust the opening balance or you can add a new transaction to the register.
The new transaction would be an adjustment and you would have to choose a category to assign it to or assign none.
Money is not the easiest program. It's easy to use but not easy to figure out how the files are being saved in a directory.
Some/most financial sites will download data into Money, but you must choose the dates and the correct format for your version. I think the most common is called *.QIF and the date format must be correct mo/day/year (06/06/2017)
If you download successfully, Money will let you review every transaction and either add the transaction or let you choose an existing transaction to match it to.
