Tablets for Windows

Tablets for Windows
I’m looking for a Tablet and the more I search about it the more I get confused. Since I’m a Windows man (I have Windows 8.1 and Office 2013 on my ASUS 17” Laptop) I need a Tablet which will run Word / Excel, have Wi-Fi to connect to local networks and USB to be able to copy / paste files. I’m not into games neither songs
What I gather the Surface Pro is the only one which will run Windows but I’m not sure if a Samsung or ASUS Tablet which are less expensive will be able to do the same
Any ideas here?

I don't think there's and easy way to run Windows 10 on a Samsung or ASUS tablet but you can get Microsoft Office for them. You may have an issue because anything new will probably be running a newer version of Office so you may have to watch how you save documents if you want them backwards compatible to your old version of Office.

I prefer not to have a Tablet with Windows 10 since I dislike that OS. If that’s what available now and there are no tablets with Windows 8.1, I will re-think and perhaps forget about a Tablet.
I have no problem with the Office compatibility, now I have both Office 2013 in my laptop and Office 2000 in my Desktop (quite old but does the job) and there is no issue between them. Office 2013 converts the older docs with no problem and I will assume a newer Office will do the same.

I doubt you could find a new tablet running 8.1 any longer, Microsoft wants everyone on 10; you would likely have to buy something used.

I agree stickshift, MS want us to go with what they want and so I will go with something else or maybe with nothing if I can’t find what I want.
Searching I find that the Samsung Galaxy Tab E with 9.6” screen, 16GB, Android 5.0 Lollipop with a Quad-Core Qualcomm APQ 8016 CPU at 1.2GHz sells locally for $250 and includes Office but they don’t say if this is a demo or subscription version. Somehow I don’t think it’s free perhaps after 30 days or so I will have to buy it or pay a monthly fee. However if this tablet runs Office it must have a MS OS but they say the OS is Android 5.0 (Lollipop). Here is the link for that tablet
Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6" 16GB Android 5.0 Lollipop Tablet - White : Android Tablets - Best Buy Canada
Can this OS run MS programs?
Do these Tablets have a File Explorer like Windows?

I just got a new computer this year and there was no purchase option for Office. It was all subscription based.

Actually, I bought a laptop in the last several months and I was offered to subscribe to Office or purchase Office Home and Student for a one time fee. I looked, and they're still offering that.

All tablets these days run MS Office. You can download MS Office apps that run on Android, Apple (iOS), or Windows. So step one is to pick a tablet you like. I would personally stay away from Windows and go Apple or Android. Of course, depending on who you talk to, one is MUCH better than the other - but we won't start that holy war in this thread.
Then you can buy or subscribe to Office 365. The personal version ($6.99/mo) gets you one desktop license, one tablet license, and one phone license. The home version ($9.99/mo) gets you 5 licenses of each.

You can buy versions of Office, but I'm not sure how they are licensed with the tablet/phone app versions.

I had an ASUS android 10 inch tablet that worked OK for me. I needed to return for repair twice and eventually the on/off switch stopped working even with hack repairs.
In April 2016 I got a 10 inch tablet (Cube iWork10) that boots into Windows 10 or Android 5.1. Good screen resolution 1920*1200 and all the ports (HDMI, USB3 & 2, micro SD, cameras, bluetooth, etc.).
Not very fast but gets the job done. I mainly boot to android but nice to have the option to switch to Windows when needed. I'm just noting what's available and not necessarily recommending this even though I would purchase again.
