red box with red dot

Why does my name in the upper right corner have a red box with red dot beside it? Is that some sort of error message?

Can you take a screenshot of it? I've not seen that before. Not sure what it means.

It's not there now. Now it's a ripped piece of paper.

That is how mine looks, I don't recall ever seeing a red dot.

Here, using FF. Yes, I have that too. I've assumed it's for a missing avatar that somehow isn't linked to the one I use. I'm guessing webpage coding issue.

In IE it's a box with an "x" in it.

I am using FF windows 7.
It is normal now but several days ago the icon changed from the ripped paper to the box with the the dot. I thought it meant I had a message or something but I couldn't find any.

Since the last update, we've encountered some odd stuff on occasion. I'd say whatever it was, it was a temporary glitch. If you should see it again, try to get a screenshot. Just curious. I could also forward it to the techs to look at. They might have a clue.

I've had that ripped graphic for some time now. It amazes me that this forum program has so many glitches and limits that most others do not. If not for the people and Mods it wouldn't be worth it.

just a random thought...I wonder what would be the ramifications on this forum if an annual nominal fee (say $1 to $5) is charged to be an active member? With many of the limitation removed for paid members (no more time limit between post, custom avatar, etc...). Non paid member would still be allowed to read but not interact.

Ok, that's in the top of the DIY website header

Right-clicking indicates that the Image location is

https://www.doityourself.com/forum/''

Both firefox and chrome have started increasing their stringency for secure links.

I would never be back. There are plenty of free places to go.

But with the high quality of experts and advice, and wide variety of subject matter? Yes there are sites dedicated to particular subject matter with experts. But honestly, I don't know of another forum that can cover any subject matter (A/C not included by design) with expert advice from Mods and member alike as good as this one.

I think the torn piece of paper means that there is a link to an image in the web page but the browser can’t find the image. But why the page would be built with a link to an image at that spot I guess would be a mystery. I would assume the replacement image would be the torn piece of paper and would be at the position on the web page to replace the missing image.

But I’m not 100% sure of all that. I guess the_tow_guy already covered this in post #6.
