Quality of work issue-take a look and give your opinion

I have a home being built by a general contractor. Went there today and this is what I found. My front porch post has a beam boxed in with pvc style boards..it has 2 full and 2 half posts on the ends that sit on top of stack stone with caps...as you can see in the picture the posts ran up and did not land in the center of the beam support but the bottoms do not sit square on the stack stone caps...one side is 6" while the opposite side is 5"...also if you look closely at the picture the decorative piece attached to it is not even centered on the post..it is 3/4" off center...I am telling him to redo it...just wanted to verify with others that this is poor craftsmanship and needs redone.
thanks

Welcome to the forums!

The pic doesn't show the bottom or the stacked stone so pretty hard to give an opinion on that.
I agree the corbel would look better if centered, does it's location match the one on the other column?

Unless there is an aesthetic reason for the korbel, it looks out of place. The post should have been centered on the beam, period. The base for the stacked stone is made of wood, so the post doesn't sit directly on a stack of rock. The frame was built improperly and aligned poorly if it is not centered. I am sure there are underlying reasons why, but only the builder can tell you. I do not think having it done right is out of place. It is your house, and you are going to make the payments on it for a long time and will have to look at this for the next 30 years. He won't.

Please post more pictures.

I have no idea why a beam would be boxed in like that. Obviously when you build the cover, you have a choice of design and placement. This design looks bad and no sense of balance.
