Front Porch Repair

So ripped up 5/4 front porch to replace old boards. I see the corner 6x6 post is sitting on a another 6x6, but that 6x6 is rotted, big time. Need ideas for replacing that wood. I was thinmking of getting some jack posts, attaching wood to cieling of porch roof to take pressure off the rotting wood. putting another post jack under the vertical 6x6, and 2 more jack posts under the porch flooring beams. I will then cut out rotting 6x6. put a new one in, attach joist hangers, reattach porch flooring beams, and then lower jacks.

Your plan sounds right. What is the foundation under the rotted 6x6? This would be the time to deal with that if it's not sufficient or sound. Use pressure treated lumber for anything in contact with ground or concrete. Don't get carried away with jacking stuff up too much, just enough to take the weight and support the structure.

Got it. I should have mentioned that you should think about how water was getting in there (and staying in there) to cause the rot. You may need to add some flashing or take other steps to make sure that the replacement doesn't develop the same problem(although using PT lumber will help).
