RR Tie Step Replacement

We have an older brick walkway that has two levels - each leads down to the next with a 5ft wide railroad tie.

The two ties get very slippery when wet and i'd like to replace them with something else. I will be relaying the bricks to level them as rain has undercut some of the sand.

Any suggestions for replacements? I'm thinking 6x6 PT would be close enough. Thanks.

Why use wood at all? I suggest another row or two of bricks set in a wet mix.

I'm not sure a 6x6 pt would be any less slick when wet. If I remember correctly, RR ties are closer to 9x9
