Driveway Edge On Slop, Is It Stable???

Hi All,

My driveway edge is very close to 3 foot drop off. Soil been brought in to support the edge. I'm just wondering if the soil will be enough to support the driveway. Any help with this is appreciated. See photos.

thank you

I am not the pro in this forum but I wouldn't park close to the edge of that driveway.
If it's just dirt... the weight of a vehicle will force it out.

Why wasn't that block wall continued thru there ?

Hard to tell. The real question is how well the ground is compacted underneath the driveway. How old is the driveway? And where are the expansion joints? I don't see a single one. Judging by the location of the garage door, I don't know why anyone would ever park within 4' of the edge anyway.

I'm not an expert either, but are there any footers at the edge to help support the pad? At the very least I would get some grass planted there very fast. You want something to hold all the dirt together. If you live in snow area then I would not pile lots of snow in that area. Use it just for walking, no weight on it.

I agree with XSlp'r, you need to know what kind of substrate is under the surface of that soil. Expansion joints would've been nice.

Assuming the soil/fill under the slab is solid my main concern would be planting vegetation on the slope to stabilize it.
