treating pressure treated deck joists?

I rebuilt my deck a couple years ago and the joists underneath seem to have a bit of mildew building up. I planned on breaking out the pressure washer with some simple green (or something of the sort more natural and mild than bleach) to give it all a good zap but was curious if I should also hit the wood with some kind of sealer treatment. Im sure the chemical has dried out by now but Im unsure of what, if anything, to use on presser treated wood.

They make an algecide that can be sprayed onto the wood which will keep the mold from returning.

rotten wood - balcony repair

As you can see in the photo, one of the supporting beams of my balcony has "dry rot." 1) I plan to cut away the rotten wound and replace it with new wood affixed to the remainder of the existing beam. Any thoughts spring to mind? (type of wood, what not to do, etc...) 2) How do I prevent this from happening again in the future? - Obviously painting it - any particular type of paint? - Boron wood injections? - Some kind of sealer? - Some kind of plastic covering or layer under the floorboards of the balcony? - Anything else?Read More

DIY options for dumping debris of a Deck Tear-dowm

1) Is there a cheaper option beside renting a dumpster for a deck tear-down? I checked out TheBagster (saw at HomeDepot) but I'm not sure its big enough BUT the next option seems to be very pricey ($400) 2) My deck stairs (not tearing it down) doesn't seem to have the proper Post support. The posts were not installed properly, instead of digging a hole, filling it with cement and setting the post, the posts are just sitting on top of the ground. I don't use my deck so I didn't notice this (I bought a fixer-upper). Is it possible to set the post correctly without have to tear-down the stairs and start over? Thanks.Read More
