I'm installing pavers under the deck, which has 5.5x5.5 wood posts running into dirt. Should paver blocks contact posts or keep enough gaps? I worry about the moisture and rot of the posts. I guess if the blocks contact the posts, the moisture will be trapped, so rot goes quicker and earlier. If the gap is wide enough, the bottom of posts will be drier. What if I let blocks contact posts and seal the seams? I'm not sure which one is the best solution. Please give me some advice and explanation. Thanks!

Just trim them up with a gap and fill with your paver sand, all is good!

The deck was build by previous owner. I know it's not very good to bury posts into ground. However, probably I'm not living in the south. most decks here are build in that way.

I want to leave a gap between the post and the paver. Perhaps the gap will not look very good. I don't know whether I can add a low profile post skirt to cover the gap?
