Steps to porch
Our front porch has only one step leading to the porch. The one step is probably not enough given the height. People and especially kids have problems wth the step. The step is a paver step. I am trying to determine if there is a simple fix or if I need replace the whole thing. The total height is 17” to 17.5” - walkway to porch. . There is only one step that has a height of 6.25” in height. The step has been lifted by bricks another 1.75” for a total of 8”. The step has a large area of 23.5”(thread) by 36.5”. Given the original paver step is 6.25, I would need a total height of 18.75” to add another step on top of the paver step to make things even. Any thoughts on what to do ? I was thinking of removing the brick lifters so that the paver step is 6.25 and then add another 5-6” small step on top.

Yeah I think you would be better off by starting over... laying some block as a base, then overlay that with your capstones. By code, no step can vary from any other step by more than 3/8".

I agree with two 6-1/2" steps in place of what you have now. And there are ratios for treads and risers, so for comfort and safety with that rise I would hold the tread in the 11-1/2" to 11-3/4" range.
