Replace porch supports

Hello everyone

I am planning to replace the porch post. I currently have 4x4 that are a bit rotten. (Picture attached) there are 6 4xs which every pair was a foot apart with an old iron design in the middle which I removed because it did not look good. I want to replace the 6 4x4s with 3 4 in. x 6 in. Premium #2 and Better Douglas Fir Lumber.

Would this be enough to support the porch? Thank you

Are there any splices or joints in the beam? If yes then you need to pay more attention to the columns and their location. If the beam is continuous then you have more flexibility. Your porch isn't that long so my guess is that three columns should work fine. 4x4 would probably be sufficient but I often prefer the appearance of the larger timber.

Hi Pilot Dane

Yes there is 1 joint on the furthest left post(picture attached circles with red). I am planning to put the 4x6 almost on the same location of the 4x4 (picture attached, blue post mark). Yes the appearance is a lot better main reason why i want to do the 4x6 instead of 4x2.
thank you for the help

You need to have a column centered underneath that joint in the beam not "almost" under it.
