Deck experts! I need your help!

Looking for advice on the best way to tie in a new deck with the existing deck.

Im essentially adding a 10x10 addition to the current deck.

advice on where footers should be placed? This will not be attacked to the house in any way.

For simplicity sake, you would likely want to do it the same way the existing deck is done... and keep the new beams in line with the existing beams.

The original deck is attached to the house. Would you include extra structure to compensate for the fact that the extension would not be attached to the house?

You would need a 3rd beam that is near / inline with your ledger. Any post footings that are 5 ft or closer to the house need to be at the same depth as the house footing.
