Deck Ledger board question

I am in the middle of completely redoing my deck and I have now completely remove the old deck including the ledger board which was poorly installed back in 1977. Only a small amount of nail was driven into the rim joist and I am surprised it lasted this long. I now have a dilemma on how to install the ledger board due to the way it was done previously and due to the amount of space I have under doors, etc. Is there anything wrong with me screwing the bottom half of the ledger board to the concrete block foundation wall and the too half of the ledger board to the rim joist? When I think through this process in my head it seems like it would be fine but wanted some other opinions on this. I've seen plenty of people go directly into a concrete foundation wall and I'm seeing plenty of people go directly into a rim joist but I can't find where anyone has split the difference. Any info will be much appreciated.

Current convention is to skip the ledger board and make the deck freestanding. No idea how that might affect the siding in your case.

Google and download the DCA6 Deck guide... it's a free guide that gives code compliant tables, and is a good guide that will show you how ledgers can be attached.

 

I'm with Stickshift on this. I almost always build my decks freestanding. If using a ledger, you have to insure proper waterproofing and flashing and fastener placement according to deck loads.
