How to properly fasten double header to joists
How should I fasten a double header to perpendicular joists that are cantilevered over a drop beam?
My joists are 2x8. The beam is almost 24' long. So, my thought was to first fasten two 2x8x12' boards to the ends of the joists, then three 2x8x8' on top of those to create a double header for better railing stability later.
I'm not finding much on how to properly do this. My first thought was structural screws through the header into the end grain of the joists, but that seems like it could be asking for splits or weak connections.

Hard to answer without knowing the complete story behind this. The most straightforward answer would be to use LUS28Z joist hangers.
