Joist hangers
I was watching a YouTube video posted by a "home inspector." He was inspecting a new deck and he pointed out that the builder did not use joist hangers and that was a violation. Are joist hangers required by code now or is it a local thing?

Joist hangers have become the most popular way of attaching floor joists because they are inexpensive and fast and the easiest way to comply with building codes. There are other approved methods like using ledger boards that may be approved but they are much less common these days.
