I have a 5 piece tub surround for a shower - I'm looking for the best and strongest adhesive to use to attach to greenboard. instructions say to use notched trowel to spread but advises using liquid nails or Locktite using a caulk gun. Not sure if I am better off doing it that way or buying it in a bucket to spread easier- any advice?

Found some water leaking into a room adjacent to the bathtub and found it was coming through a loose bathtub tile (or two). I removed several of them and this is what I see. Can I just re-tile, or will I need to rip it all out and use cement board backing. Hoping to avoid a big job here, but also don't want something that will fail quickly.
