how to make old bathtub look new

My house bathtub looks old. how to make it look new? replace a new one or just reglazing? how long it will last if just reglazing?
How much is to replace a new one? how much is to reglazing? any other less expensive and last long method?

Welcome to the forums Susan!

Nothing beats a new tub. Reglazing does ok provided the proper prep is done. You can buy tub paint and diy BUT it has a high failure rate - mostly due to insufficient prep. The also sell fiberglass [?] overlays for tubs although I don't really know anything about them.

Shower Niche Location

Hi. I want to add a shower niche in my bathroom. The only wall that would allow a niche is the plumbing wall. I don't want to re-align any pipes to make room, I want to work with what I have, so I either have to place it to the left or to the right of the center stud. Placing it to the left- it would be near the corner and would have to be less than 10" wide (likely closer to 8" if I want it to align nicely with the tile) since the pipe to the shower head runs on this side. Placing it to the right - it could be about 12" wide but it would be on the side where the curtain or glass would be. It doesn't feel right to locate it near the opening like that, I'd rather have it on the other side at the corner, but I could really use a larger niche. In addition, my last tile contractor told me I shouldn't place it there. Should I avoid locating it on the right? Should I just avoid the whole thing and get a standard shelf? Or try to squeeze what I can on the left? Thanks much.Read More

Clawfoot tub in wet room

Hello all, We are in the process of building our house, doing most of the work ourselves. While designing the layout of the bathroom, we decided to turn the back part, with the tub and shower into one big wet room. The designated area is a little over 7' x 64". The tub will take up 64" x 34", leaving a huge area for a shower in the wet room. There will be a ledge, separating the wet room and the rest of the bathroom. My question/concern is where to start the slope in the floor? I know tubs have to be level, but am also understanding that the whole wet room has to be sloped towards the drain. Would it be okay, code wise, to build up the tub area 3 1/2 to 4 inches and start the slope then? Any suggestions/help is much appreciated, interpreting code is sometimes tricky and just need guidance to this right. Thanks, KevinRead More
