Schluter vs Mud Bed for Shower

I've received two quotes to rip out and tile a 2x3 shower. The first contractor wants to use a Schluter system. Cost of the installation and materials would be about $2800 not including tile or shower door. The second contractor wants to use a mud bed and the cost of installation and materials would be about $2250 not including tile or door.

Is there any significant difference between the two? Any other comments?

Thanks!

I assume the Schluter (I installed Prova) uses the styrofoam base?

As far as I'm concerned the membrane system is 100% waterproof. If it is installed correctly there is no way it can leak.

I used for my walk in shower and would never do a shower without!

Either system will work. On the quote for the mudbed, ask if it is a pre-slope, then membrane, then second mudbed then tile. The pre-slope is key to a well functioning shower.
