Salvaging cast iron tub

Because water got behind the wall in my bathroom I'm in the middle of the demo. All of it was original stuff from the 60's. Removing the original tile and walls surrounding the tub wasn't too bad except for the corners of the walls where the wire mesh was at. I still have one corner to go but that will wait until I can get wire snips.

The original cast iron tub is in pretty good shape in regards to the color and condition.
I'd like to try to reuse it, but I don't know if that will be possible after looking at the tub around the drain.

Something tells me when I torque on it to remove the drain because of the rust it will just give out. Can anyone take a look at these pics and comment?

Am I better off getting the tub out of there?

Thanks!

If you can get it out then do so. That tub paid for itself already. Replace it. Since your demoing the walls why not...

Im old school and like tile but will not do it anymore in my own home.

something acrylic with surround is my preference.

I wasn't planning on going with tile again. Once I get the walls up I'd use a 3 piece surround or the cheap sheets of plastic. Will those not work with a cast iron tub? I want it done right but not trying to spend a lot on this project and why I wanted to reuse the tub.

They are 385 at lowes.

Go to post office and get 10% off coupon in new home packet they have there.

Your going to do all that work and have an old tub with rotting rusting drain..
